POLICE OFFICER TESTING IN 2010

  • The Police application period will open January 4, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time for testing appointments in March and April, 2010.
  • Fall 2010 Police testing may be scheduled. An application period for Fall testing, if any, has not been determined.


POLICE ACADEMY CLASSES ON HOLD

  • There are no planned academy classes for 2010. However, we encourage individuals interested in becoming Police Officers to test in 2010 to be considered for future academies. Those testing in March and April, 2010 may be considered for hire into academy classes in 2011.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Denver Police Officer.

A synopsis of the minimum qualifications is listed below:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. on or before the date of application;
  • U.S. citizenship on or before the date of application;
  • 21 years of age on or before the date of application;
  • No felony convictions;
  • A good driving and employment record (applicants must possess a valid automobile driver's license before placement on the eligible register);
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of an entry-level police officer with or without reasonable accommodation. (Refer to Tasks of a Police Officer included in the Informational Summary on our web site);
  • No legal impediments to the ability of performing the essential job functions of an entry-level police officer;
  • Physically, mentally, and psychologically qualified to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of an entry-level police officer
  • Reside within the state of Colorado at the time of appointment;


Additional Hiring Standards

As part of the minimum qualifications, an applicant must also meet certain hiring standards adopted by the Civil Service Commission. In order to complete the Police Officer Application, you will be asked to answer "Yes" or "No" to each of the statements noted below. The Civil Service Commission staff cannot provide you with legal advice in these matters.

  1. I have been convicted of or received a deferred judgment for a felony.
  2. I have been convicted of and/or received deferred judgments for four (4) or more misdemeanors (non-traffic) within the 36 months prior to my date of application, and up to and including today.
  3. I have been convicted of and/or received a deferred judgment for a misdemeanor involving domestic violence.
  4. I have been convicted of and/or received a deferred judgment for a misdemeanor involving sexual assault.
  5. I have been convicted of and/or received a deferred judgment for a misdemeanor involving child abuse.
  6. I have been convicted of and/or received a deferred judgment for a misdemeanor involving intimidation or harassment of a person or group, because of that person's or group's race, color, ancestry, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability.
  7. I have one or more convictions or deferred judgments for a DUI or DWAI offense within the 36 months prior to my date of application and up to and including today.
  8. I have two or more convictions or deferred judgments for a DUI or DWAI offense in my lifetime.
  9. I have illegally sold, delivered, distributed, or manufactured drugs.
  10. I have illegally used soft drugs (not prescribed for me) at least one time within the 36 months prior to my date of application, and up to and including today.
  11. I have illegally used hard drugs (not prescribed for me) at least one time within the 60 months prior to my date of application, and up to and including today.
  12. I have been convicted of and/or received a deferred judgment for a misdemeanor (non-traffic) while I was employed in a law enforcement, firefighter or other sworn public safety position.
  13. I have illegally used soft or hard drugs while employed in a law enforcement, firefighter or other sworn public safety position.
  14. I have been convicted of a misdemeanor. (If yes, in Comments give the date of conviction and describe the nature of the offense.)

Answering Honestly, Accurately and Completely

All of the questions and items on the application form must be answered accurately and completely. All information provided on the application is subject to investigation and verification. Any falsification or omission of information may result in an applicant's removal  from the examination process, removal from the examination list or eligible register, or if appointed, dismissal from the Denver Police Department.
