Denver outdoor pools open Saturday, June 3, 2006 for summer season

(Denver) Denver Parks and Recreation’s sixteen outdoor pools open Saturday, June 3 with a variety of summer swimming activities for people of all ages and abilities. For as little has $8.75, Denver youth residents, ages 2 – 17, can purchase a 3-month recreation membership which includes unlimited access to all 29 recreation centers, and 16 outdoor pools. Adult 3-month memberships are $37.50, and senior/special populations are $16.25. Recreation memberships must be purchased at one of our recreation centers. In addition to purchasing a membership package, interested folks can purchase outdoor season pool passes at any of our outdoor pools. These season pool passes range in price from $20.00 for youth through $75.00 for a family pass.
At most outdoor pools, open swimming will be available from 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. with some extending into evening hours every day of the week , and will continue for the summer season until August 19. In response to citizen requests, Denver Parks and Recreation has extended the 2006 outdoor pool season to include a total of 11 weeks, an increase from 9 weeks last summer. For the opening week of June 3-11, and the extended closing weeks of August 4-19, pool schedules are limited to open and lap swims.
“Part of being a successful parks and recreation agency is meeting the ever-growing demands and needs of the community,” commented Daniel Betts, Deputy Manager of Recreation. “The expansion of this year’s outdoor pool season is combination of responding to citizen requests, managing our current resources efficiently and successfully partnering with community organizations and members of City Council to increase service delivery at outdoor pools across the city.”
As part of the outdoor pool schedules at each of our 16 pools, the Denver Parks and Recreation Aquatics Program has many swimming lessons, lap swim time and Family Fun Nights (new this year) available for the entire family this summer. You may also contact your neighborhood pool for schedule and activity information as it varies based on community needs.
Sneak Preview Photo Opportunity, Thursday, June 1, 2006: Denver’s Annual Lifeguard Boot Camp from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m. at Congress Park Pool located at 914 Elizabeth. This training is one of the final steps to becoming a Denver Parks and Recreation outdoor lifeguard. Lifeguards will demonstrate skills such as CPR and First Aid and Basic Rescue in a timed setting.
