CELEBRATE 2000

THE E-TIME CAPSULE
1900 to 1910

Age: 89

What is your fondest memory of Denver between 1900 and 1910?

We used to go to the five and ten downtown to have lunch and see the sights on Saturdays. I miss that.

What do you think Denver will be like in the year 2010?

Name: Leon Des Moineaux
Age: 49

What is your fondest memory of Denver between 1900 and 1910?

My father was born in Creede, CO, in August of 1899. His father was born in Central City in 1863. They are two important figures in Colorado history to me because of their heritage here and their contributions to the community. My father lived to be 93 years old and shared many great stories of growing up in the mountains and in Denver. He saw the first airplane attempt to fly in Denver; the pilot was killed and his father told him, "man was not meant to fly." He shared this story with me as we watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on our color TV in Denver.

What do you think Denver will be like in the year 2010?

Looking back 10 years helps give some perspective on the things ahead...only now we must amplify the progress because of the advances of technology. People will, as they have always been, be the determining factor. Technology gives us great conveniences but does not give us a more civilized culture. In 2010, we will marvel at how far we have come in the machine age while we remain baffled at the violence we cannot shed.
