THE
E-TIME CAPSULE
1921 to 1930
Name: Howard W.
Age:
What is your fondest
memory of Denver between 1921 and 1930?
I remember going out to the airfield and watching airplanes
land and takeoff with my dad. We’d spend a whole day there, pack
a lunch and all. We had lots of fun like that, even in the coldest
weather.
What do
you think Denver will be like in the year 2010?
Name: Dr. Bob
Age:
What is your fondest
memory of Denver between 1921 and 1930?
I want to give mention to a very special
Denver place: Echo Lake Lodge, built in approximately 1926. This
rustic log-cabin style structure, situated at the east end of Echo
Lake mountain park, about 15 miles south of Idaho Springs, has
served Denver citizens and guests for decades. The Stewart family,
represented by matriarch Barbara Day, has hosted guests for
decades, and provides a welcome stop for those climbing nearby Mt.
Evans in summer.
What do
you think Denver will be like in the year 2010?
I wish I could be more
optimistic about the future of the place, as commercial forces
will probably undercut Ms. Day's vendor contract, and population
pressure and the greed of Forest Service managers will potentially
"kill the golden goose" at the entrance of the Mt. Evans
highway.
