1550 S. Steele St.,

(South Denver, S. of Alameda Ave.)

Denver architect Victor Hornbein’s 1951 horizontal composition, with harmonious layers of projecting roofs is reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian style, but geared to the high, dry, sunny Colorado climate. Brick walls serve as both the exterior and interior finsh. Banded-glass windows capture abundant light and views. Named for Denver teacher John J. Corey (1890-1945). Ross-Broadway Branch Library at 33 E. Bayaud Ave. is another beautiful example of Hornbein’s unique style.
