Adoption & Foster Care

Denver Human Services provides both foster care and adoption services to meet the needs of children who have been abused or neglected. We work to find homes and out-of-home placements that can provide safe and nurturing environments for the children we work with.

Foster Care

Working toward what's best for the child and our community
When children in our community are in danger, foster families stand up and offer a place of safety until parents are ready to care for those children again. In Denver, there are approximately 1,600 children currently in foster home placements. There is always a need for families who will provide foster care and the greatest need is for homes that will accept sibling groups and teenagers. As a foster parent, you are not only doing the right thing for the child and the greater community, but you may even be helping out your own neighbor. We try to place children in foster families in their own neighborhoods to keep routines with school and friends consistent during difficult times.

Adoption

Children become available for adoption when their parents lose their parental rights because of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exploitation. We provide services for these children while working with people who are interested in adopting them. The key factor in determining if an adoptive home is appropriate for a particular child is the needs of the child. People interested in adopting children go through an application and training process to ensure the best possible adoption experience for both the child and their new family.
