The alarm ordinance pertaining to monitored burglar, hold-up and panic alarm systems in the City and County of Denver requires that in order to have police respond to a monitored burglar alarm system, a user must first obtain an alarm permit. The Alarm Division of the Department of Excise and Licenses is charged with making sure that all monitored burglar alarm users in Denver have valid alarm permits, that fines from any false alarm incidents are paid, and that all locations with five or more false intrusion alarms not reversed by appeal are placed into and removed from the police department's general response in a timely manner. The Division must keep accurate records of all alarm permit transactions and all false alarm reports.
