America's Promise Alliance Names Denver One of 100 Best Communities for Young People
In 1997 all five living Presidents affirmed our obligation as Americans to keep five specific promises to young people: 1- Caring Adults, 2- Safe Places, 3- A Healthy Start, 4- An Effective Education and 5- Opportunities to Help Others. From these promises sprang a nationwide alliance for children and youth under the founding leadership of Colin Powell called America’s Promise. America’s Promise held a national competition in 2005 seeking applications to be one of the 100 top communities for young people. Denver applied and received the 100 Best honor because of the policies and innovative programs in the community that support healthy children and youth.
