The City and County of Denver's Brownfields program is lead by the Office of Economic Development (OED). The Environmental Quality Division is a principal partner with OED to provide technical environmental assistance to the agency. Links to specific Brownfields projects are to the right.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the City a grant to assess potentially environmentally impaired properties which are slated for redevelopment. The grant’s focus is to allow the City to address environmental issues and move forward with plans to create transit-oriented development centers in low-income neighborhoods or to assess other high-priority areas. As a function of the Denver Brownfields Program, the Office of Economic Development and the Department of Environmental Health have worked together with other City agencies to identify five current and proposed projects that fall under the grant’s focus area.
As required under the grant, public meetings will be held prior to the initiation of the environmental assessments to communicate to the public the work being done and to share any redevelopment plans. Once the environmental assessments are complete, a public meeting will be held to communicate the findings. Denver Department of Environmental Health will post information on this webpage for the public to access project information including meetings, schedules, and redevelopment plans. In addition, meeting notices will be sent to the respective registered neighborhood association and other interested stakeholders.
