Civic Center/Colfax and 14th Avenue Pedestrian Crossings

The citizens of Denver approved a Bond Initiative on Nov 5, 1998 that included a $1 million project to improve the pedestrian crossings on the north and south ends of popular Civic Center Park. The project improved pedestrian safety for individuals crossing at 14th (near the library) into the park by adding a pedestrian actuated signal at the mid-block location. Improvements at 15th and Colfax adjacent to the new Civic Center Office Building ( see picture ) will include two diagonal crossings with colored concrete bands, a break in the Colfax median to provide a refuge area, and adjustments to the signal phasing to increase crossing time for pedestrians.
