Purpose
The Education Refund Program promotes the City's goals of employee job satisfaction; improving productivity and contributing to the overall success of the organization while investing in the workforce of the future by providing financial assistance to employees who take job-related, career-enhancing credit courses for the purposes of
- Developing skills required for their current position
- Enable employees to continue to grow and develop their knowledge
- Support employees learning
- Provide tools to assist in building a career with the City and County of Denver
Availability of Funds
Funds are disbursed during the following terms/semesters.
- Winter/Spring (January -April)
- Summer (May - August)
- Fall (September -December)
Employees who enroll and successfully complete course work within the defined terms and agreements are eligible for reimbursement at 100% of tuition up to the maximum of $1,200 per year.
Applications are approved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Not included are books and other fees, CLEP, Portfolios and prior learning experience. Professional certification/licensing exams will be reimbursed at 100% of cost up to a yearly maximum amount of $1,200.
Employee Eligibility
To be eligible for the tuition reimbursement program:
- Employees must have one year of continuous service
- Attend an accredited college/university through the Higher Learning Commission
- Submit grades and proof of tuition paid 30 days after your term/semester ends
- Obtain a B or better for graduate students and C or better for undergraduate students

Tuition reimbursements are approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Applications must be submitted, and date-stamped by Career Service Authority, no earlier than
30 days prior to the beginning of the *term/semester or no later than 15 days after the *term/semester begins.
If the application is approved, committed funds will be set aside until reimbursement is requested, provided that final grades and verification of tuition are submitted within 30 days following the completion of the course.
How to Receive ReimbursementUpon successful completion of coursework, you must submit a copy of your final grades and proof of tuition paid with a 0 balance from the school within 30 days following the completion of term/semester.
Career Advising
A certified career development facilitator will work with each individual throughout the program year to help identify skill-sets, career interests, work related values, and career paths that are available in the City and County of Denver.
