Proper Cart Usage and Set-out
  • Only recyclables inside the cart will be collected. Anything placed outside of the cart will be left behind.
  • Make sure the front of the cart faces out towards the street or the alley.
  • Recycling carts must be removed from the curbside or alley on non-service days. Bring your containers back on to your property after your collection.
  • Be sure to leave at least 4 feet of clearance between your recycling container and any other obstacles (such as dumpsters, trash barrels, garbage cans, extra bags of overflow trash, cars or mailboxes).

Large Item Pickup
Denver's Solid Waste Management Division offers residential collection for large or bulky items. Called LIP, the service enables Denver residents to dispose of large items such as furniture and appliances, including the removal and disposal of materials illegally dumped in the city's right-of-way, and the reclamation of freon from appliances.

Furniture is automatically collected once every five weeks. Appliances are collected weekly by appointment only. To schedule an appliance collection, call the city's contractor Unwanted Appliances at 303-430-7142.

Download a copy of the LIP schedule (To view this file, use Adobe Acrobat Reader), or see when your next collection date is by checking the schedule online.

The large item program does not accept household hazardous waste, motor oil, auto parts (including tires), tree stumps, fireplace or barbeque ashes, railroad ties, concrete, rocks, soil, sod, construction and building materials, demolition debris and branches over four feet in length.
