City Council - Welcome Message
City Council makes laws, budgets City money, and can investigate City agencies and employees.  Since 1971, the Council has had 13 members-11 from equally populated districts and two elected at large.  Council members, who must be 25, US citizens, and two-year Denver residents, are all elected at the same time every four years.  Council committees, each concerned with various areas of City government, meet frequently to discuss and prepare proposed laws.  The whole Council typically meets every Monday at 5:30 p.m., except holidays, when the meetings are held on Tuesday nights.

City Council - News Releases

Infrastructure Bond Projects went to November 6, 2007 Ballot

The following bills detail the infrastructure bond questions that went before the voters at the November 6, 2007 municipal election.  The Denver City Council referred eight infrastructure bond questions to follow a mill levy question that would establish a new dedicated property increase of 2.5 mills.  Voters saw the ballot questions in the following order: Health and Human Services Facilities, Libraries, Transportation and Public Works, Park System Facilities, Public Office Facilities, Cultural Facilities deferred maintenance, Cultural Facilities new construction, and Public Safety facilities.

Council Bills 413, 414, 415, 416, 417, 418, 419, 420, 421, Series of 2007.

A companion bill to the infrastructure bond questions, Council Bill 422, Series of 2007, was also passed by Denver City Council on August 13.  Since the voters approved all of the proposed measures, this ordinance specifies the projects expenditures and level of funding to be undertaken with the proceeds from the general obligation bonds.

The Finance Committee Summary of August 1, 2007 provides additional details.
