Welcome to the official Web site for the Denver City Attorney's Office.

Our office will be closed for Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26th, 2009 and for the furlough day on Friday, November 27th, 2009

The Denver City’s Attorney’s Office is one of the largest law firms in Colorado, with over 100 attorneys and approximately 100 staff members comprised of paralegals, victim advocates, and other support and supervisory staff members.  It may have the most diverse practice of any law firm in Colorado.  Its clients include the Mayor; the Auditor; the Clerk and Recorder; City Council; and all city agencies, departments, boards and commissions.
On any given day, you will find Denver Assistant City Attorneys handling a wide range of matters, including the financing of regional development projects such as Denver Union Station and Stapleton Redevelopment; drafting and negotiating contracts regarding matters large and small; litigating significant civil rights matters in federal court; prosecuting criminal matters in Denver County Court; advising City Council on critical legislation; protecting the interests of children in Denver District Court; helping plan for large scale events, such as the Democratic National Convention; and providing general counsel and advice to Denver International Airport, one of the nation’s largest airports.

Assistant City Attorneys regularly speak at conferences and at accredited continuing legal education courses around the country and the state.  Assistant City Attorneys also engage in significant public service by serving on boards of non-profit entities and city programs.  Numerous attorneys and staff members mentor and train legal and paralegal interns each year.

The Colorado Center for Inclusive Excellence (CCIE) has selected the City Attorney's Office as one of  a small number of legal organizations to pilot its Inclusiveness Manual--Beyond Diversity:  Inclusiveness in the Legal Workplace.  Other pilot organizations include the law firm of Holland and Hart and the Qwest Corporation's Legal Department.  CCIE is a Colorado nonprofit dedicated to increasing diversity in the legal profession.  CCIE was created by the Dean's Diversity Council, of which City Attorney David Fine is a member.  For more information about the inclusivity program, visit CCIE's website http://www.colegaldiversity.org/

The Denver City Attorney’s Office is a dynamic place to work and to practice law.  We feel lucky to serve our clients and to represent the interests of the City and County of Denver.

The Denver City Attorney’s Office was awarded the 2009 Qwest Diversity Leadership Award by the Diversity in the Legal Profession Committee of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations.  This award recognizes a Colorado law firm or corporate legal department that is a leader in diversity and demonstrating a commitment to diversity within their organization through measurable results in recruiting, retaining and promoting diverse attorneys.
