Landmark Preservation Commission
  • The nine-member Commission is a group of city residents appointed by the Mayor for a three-year term. As volunteers, they do not receive any compensation but are reimbursed for necessary expenses for their duties.
  • Nominations for the Commission are submitted by the Denver Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Colorado State Historical Society, the Denver Planning Board, and the Colorado Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.  The Mayor directly appoints two members.The Landmark Preservation Commission regularly meets at 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Webb Building at 201 West Colfax Avenue, room 4.F.6.
  • The Commission is responsible for upholding The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. www.cr.nps.gov/hps/TPS/tax/rhb/


How Do I Contact the Landmark Preservation Staff, What are Their Positions, and How Can They Help?

Contact

  • Call 720-865-2985
  • Meet with a staff member Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Landmark counter on the second floor of the Webb Building, 201 W. Colfax Avenue.

Assistance

  • Help with solutions that meet needs for additional space while maintaining the home’s historic character.
  • Give approval for building, zoning, or other needed permits for any exterior rehabilitation, alteration, addition, or reconstruction before going to the Permit department.  Staff can give administrative approval or advise on how to get formal approval from the Landmark Preservation Commission.

  • Review simple projects at the Landmark Preservation Counter (near the counter for permits) and advise if a project can be administratively approved or must go before the Landmark Preservation Commission.
