The 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver
Watch this month's Council Matters On line
The Road to Denver in '08

What began as a casual conversation between Democratic Party Chairman Howard and City Councilwoman Elbra Wedgeworth in 2005 has turned into what will be the largest convention to come to Denver in the City’s history.
Denver last hosted the Democrats a century ago. What was the political atmosphere then? What is Denver’s history in holding major conventions?
Also, what were the benchmarks of the 2008 decision process and the time line for the final announcement?
Host Beverly Weaver discusses this topic with District 8 Councilwoman, and President of the 2008 Convention Host Committee,
Elbra Wedgeworth and District 7 Councilwoman
Kathleen MacKenzie.
What are some of the favorite things about Denver that we want convention attendees to see while in the City. How will the event taking place here affect those living here? What City services will be needed to handle an event of this size? Will the event have a positive economic affect on the City and the region?
And, just how much does it cost to stage this event…and who is paying for it?
Denver in the political spotlight?
Party Chairman Howard Dean has indicated that the Democrats need to ‘win the western voters again’ at this convention. Why is the Rocky Mountain West important to the Democrats? Will Denver be the location where the next President of the United States is nominated?
How can citizens get involved?
