Opportunities for Youth in Denver
Watch this month's Council Matters Online

What does a child and youth friendly city look like?
In 2006 Denver was named one of the 100 best communities for young people
by America’s Promise, in large part because of its innovative policies and programs that support the healthy environment of children and youth.
But what are the challenges that youth face today? What are some of the best and worst places in Denver? Where do they feel welcomed? And, what would they do to make Denver a better place?
What programs and policies are in place now?
Denver’s Child and Youth Friendly City Initiative aims to ensure the City’s children and youth have a voice and are decision makers n their communities
and Denver. It is a community mobilization effort designed to collect voices
around what would make Denver child and youth friendly. City Council is also
working on expanding recreation programs, summer youth employment programs as well as looking at ways of increasing and customizing recreation center hours and programs to accommodate children and young people as the end of the school term approaches.
Other programs include; Colorado Hip Hop Elements, Arts from Ashes
What is in the future for programs and opportunities for Denver’s young people?
The City is investing in children with its Early Childhood Education program. Funding is also being made available for a collaborative youth mentoring program as well as eighteen parent/family school liaisons.
Denver also has a teen pregnancy prevention program. Partnerships with the non-profit community are also in place for summer youth employment opportunities and other activities.
