How does the City Build Tomorrow’s Workforce Today?

Even in a challenging economy, providing Denver’s young people with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience is an investment in Denver’s future.  Denver’s City Council, the Office of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Development, and The Denver Housing Authority are committed to assisting youth in gaining the skills necessary to obtain and retain employment.

What Programs Are Available Through City Agencies?

The Office of Economic Development’s Youth Employment Program provides employment and training services that assist in addressing the educational, job readiness and career exploration goals of youth. There are three primary objectives for the Youth Employment Program:

•      Provide job readiness training to all participants and give youth the opportunity to gain basic work place skills.
•      Explore employment options in a particular field of interest.
•      Create employment options for youth that may not have otherwise been possible.

The Youth Employment Program serves youth between the ages of 14 to 21 who are part of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program.

The Denver Housing Authority is doing their part

The Denver Housing Authority is celebrating its 70th Anniversary in 2008.  The DHA provides over 316 of Denver’s young people with employment training opportunities.
These include: The Mile High Youth Corps, YouthBuild, the Youth Employment Academy, a partnership between DHA and the Office of Economic Development, and education partnerships with Denver Public Schools among others.
