The presiding judge is appointed annually by the Mayor and is responsible for coordinating activities and assignments of the other Denver County Court judges and magistrates, working with the court administrator planning for the court, and conducting preliminary hearings in homicide cases in the City and County of Denver. The presiding judge also serves as ex-officio member of the Denver County Court Judicial Performance Commission, which reviews complaints against county court judges, and the Denver County Court Judicial Nomination Commission, which presents nominations to the Mayor of individuals for appointment to fill vacancies occurring on the bench of Denver County Court.
 
In addition, the Office of the Presiding Judge provides a medley of resources for Denver County Court. It serves as a central information point for both internal and external customers of the court's administrative services.
