Transcriber's Office FAQ

I will be in the City and County Building, can I request a transcript in person?
Yes. The division clerks in rooms 109(Traffic), 140(General Sessions) and 111(Criminal) have a supply of order forms. You simply fill it out there, give the original back to the counter clerk and keep the carbon for yourself.

My case was civil in nature; it was heard in one of the courtrooms at 1515 Cleveland Place. Do I still follow the directions above?
We have a transcriber devoted exclusively to the civil courtrooms located at 1515 Cleveland Place. Civil Division personnel will provide the transcriber's name and business telephone. You may contact the transcriber directly.

I have a question, and I want to speak personally with the staff who operate the transcriber office. Can I visit the transcriber office?
The transcriber office closes for varying intervals throughout the day. It is best to telephone the office at 720-865-8325 with your questions. The office does have voice mail and it is monitored regularly.

I noticed that transcripts take about 4 weeks to produce. Why does it take so long?
Once your order is recieved, it starts a mulitple step process. The tapes are obtained from the courtroom of from the tape library; the case is located on the tapes; any speakers are identified. The case is assigned to the first available transcriber. The transcriber reviews the tape, works up an estimate of the charges, contacts you and awaits payment. Once payment arrives, the transcriber actually begins transcribing.

top

How is the per-page cost set?
That cost($2.35) is set by State statute.

top

If I call the transcriber office, can the staff give me an estimate over the phone?
No. The only way an accurate estimate can be obtained is through the steps listed above.

top

Once the transcript is ready, can I come to the transcriber office to pick it up?
The transcribers who produce work for the Denver County Court maintain business offices away from the City and County Building. The transcriber assigned to your case will make the necessary arrangments with you.

I really need an expedited transcript. The motion hearing just ended, and the trial is scheduled for next Tuesday. If I pay more, may I have it expedited?
The transcriber office and private transcribers make every effort to meet "rush" orders. Your request will be offered to several available transcribers. If none of the transcribers are able to handle a "rush" assignment, you will be contacted immediately. If one of the transcribers are able to handle it, that person will contact you right away. He/she will make arrangments with you, including the arrangments for an expedited fee.

I'd like to appeal my case. Do I just submit a regular Request for Transcript form?
No. The procedures for appealing a case are very specific. Please contact the appeals clerk of the particular division 109(Traffic), 140(General Sessions) or 111(Criminal). The clerk will provide you with appeal-related information.
