Welcome to the Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ). We are your source for monitoring and assessing the quality of the City and County of Denver’s air and water and other aspects of the environment.

SIte Assessment & Cleanup

The SIte Assessment & Cleanup Section provides oversight of remedial site cleanup which may include Brownfields and Superfund sites, and environmental site assessment. The group also provides oversight of Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site (DADS) landfill which is owned by the City and County of Denver.

Environmental Compliance and Management

The Environmental Compliance & Management Section (EC&M) provides material assistance, training, inspection, and expert consulting services free of charge to managers of municipal facilities and their staff in order to achieve and maintain compliance with the many Environmental Health and Safety laws and standards that apply to their operations.

Community Protection

The Community Protection Section is responsible for the enforcement of noise restrictions and asbestos abatement requirements, environmental investigation and consultation in response to elevated blood lead levels in children, the cleanup of methamphetamine labs and administration of the VB/I-70 Community Health Program. This section also oversees emergency preparedness and response training, planning and coordination activities.

Environmental Sustainability

This section provides information on Pollution Prevention, Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and Stewardship & Travel Reduction programs.

Environmental Assessment & Policy

This section is responsible for the monitoring and assessment of air and surface water quality throughout Denver.  This information is made available to the public via annual reporting or upon request.  The EAP section also provides technical assistance to various City and County of Denver agencies, residents, and others concerning air and water quality issues.
