The VB/I-70 Community Health Program is a residential canvassing outreach project that provides childhood lead poisoning prevention outreach services to the residents of the VB/I-70 Superfund Site.  The health outreach services of the project will be available through September of 2007.  Clean-up of the site was completed in the fall of 2006.

Third-Party Site Cleanup

DEH provides third party oversight of remedial site cleanups that are led primarily by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. DEH’s goal is to ensure that environmentally contaminated sites within and around Denver are cleaned up to protect the health of Denver residents and their environment, and to ensure that the cleanup activities comply with Denver regulations and City standards.
The Lowry Landfill began operations in 1964 and was owned and operated until 1980 by the City and County of Denver. From 1980 to 1990, Lowry operations were contracted out to Waste Management of Colorado. In 1984, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency listed the site on the National Priority List and designated it a Superfund site.
