The Better Denver Program  is a comprehensive effort to invest in the enhancement of many city facilities that touch our lives, as well as the construction of new city facilities.

In 2007, Denver’s citizens passed the ballot initiatives that established this program and its bond financing; to make a better Denver for everyone.  Through this program, we will improve, preserve, renovate and build new roads, libraries, parks, hospitals, public safety facilities, cultural facilities and more.

Over 215 projects are slated for design and construction.  The City of Denver is committed to delivering these projects in record time (4-5 years), so that most projects are completed by 2011.

 Westwood Early Learning Center Groundbreaking

Westwood Groundbreaking

Preschoolers from West Denver joined Mayor John Hickenlooper, District 3 City Councilman Paul Lopez, child advocates and Better Denver Bond Program leaders and contractors on June 18, 2009 to celebrate completion of bond-funded improvements at three City-owned child care centers.

The group also broke ground on a major expansion of the City’s Westwood Early Learning Center. Together, the centers serve children from low-income families in the Five Points, Cole, Lowry and Westwood neighborhoods of Denver.

“At a time when work in the private sector has slowed or halted, these bond-funded improvements are boosting economic activity and creating and maintaining jobs for Denver families,” Hickenlooper said. “With these particular projects, the Bond Program is benefiting our community – and especially our children – by improving the learning environment at these facilities.”
