The City and County of Denver is working steadily toward developing a comprehensive and connected network to accommodate bicyclists. The bike system includes shared use paths, bike lanes, sharrows or “shared lane arrows,” and signed bike routes.
The City of Denver has 62 miles of trails, 38 miles of bike lanes, 21 miles of sharrows, and almost 400 miles of signed bike routes. The goals of the Denver Bicycle Program are to: -
Facilitate bicycling as a viable transportation choice; -
Increase the amount of bicycle commuting. (According to the 2007 U.S. American Community Survey, approximately 1.6 percent of Denver’s population bicycles to work. Denver’s goal is 10 percent bicycle commute trips by 2018.) -
Provide access to healthful recreational activities; and -
Link major destinations with Denver neighborhoods. |
