The MMCYA
youth award presentation

The Metropolitan Mayor's and Commissioners Youth Award (MMCYA) was established in March, 1986 by Janice Gabriel, then Director of Volunteers for Family Tree, Inc., and Michael W. Simmons, then Director of the Denver Commission on Youth.  The MMCYA is a partnership between local government and the Colorado Community College Foundation dedicated to investing in our youth.

The purpose of the Metropolitan Mayors and Commissioners Youth Award is to recognize young people (ages 13-19) in our communities who have overcome personal adversity and created positive change in their lives.  These are youth who have shown outstanding achievement in the areas of direct service in the community, service to the family, or service to self.

Vision Statement
To build a civic community by investing in our youth . . .our future.

Mission Statement
To identify and recognize teenagers who have overcome obstacles and risen to the challenges life has presented.

MMCYA covers nine counties.  The Mayor's Office for Education and Children is the Denver County Coordinator for MMCYA.  Nomination forms are distributed in the fall of each year to the community.  If you want to nominate someone, call Nancy Gilder at 720-913-0913.
