Denver 8 TV is managed and operated by the Office of Telecommunications of the City and County of Denver’s Technology Services agency.

OTC is an independent regulatory agency which reports to both the City Council and the Administration. The office oversees compliance of the cable TV franchise agreement and advises City Council on telecommunications issues within the City and County of Denver.
 
Additionally, OTC oversees the operation of the city's municipal access televsion - Denver 8 TV, and administers the contract with Denver's Public Access entity - Denver Open Media.
  
Recent Announcements
Sports Channel Added to the Digital Line-up -
Effective on September 22, 2009, Comcast added NFL RedZone on channnel 418 on the Digital Line-up serving Denver.
 

Channel Changes on the Digital Line-Up -
Effective on September 1, 2009, Comcast  made the following changes to the lineup.
 
Channels added were KPJR (Ch. 230), a local TBN affiliate, Church Channel (Ch. 236), Enlace (Ch. 237), JCTV (Ch. 238) and Smile (Ch. 239).
 
TBN (Ch. 230) was dropped from the lineup.
 

Channel Relocation -
Effective as of July 31, 2009,  Comcast moved  ESPN Classic (Ch. 403) from the Digital Classic Package to the Sports Entertainment Tier.  Consequently, current Digital Classic subscribers  needed  to subscribe to the Sports Entertainment Tier to continue receiving this channel.
 

Comcast decreases price on cable package -
Effective on June 22, 2009, the Cable Latino package previously priced at $32.99 will now have a charge of $29.99.
 

Diigital Classic Packages added channel -
Effective as of June 23, 2009, Jewelry TV (Ch. 188)  also appears  on channel 18 as part of the Digital Classic package.
 

Comcast Added More Channels to the Lineup -
Effective June 9, 2009,  Comcast  added  ION HD on Ch. 659.  Also Mun2 located on channel 603, also appears on channel 479 as part of the Digital Classic package.
 

Additional Channels Added by Comcast on June 16, 2009 -
The channel lineup changed on June 16, 2009 with the addition of  RLTV to be found on channel 205, and Create on channel 248.
 

Comcast added channel to the lineup -
Effective as of May 31, 2009, Comcast  added  Fx HD on Ch. 691 to the channel lineup serving Denver customers.

DTV UPDATE
House Passes DTV Delay Act
February 4, 2009 - The House has passed the DTV Delay Act, just days after its first efforts to move the DTV transition date failed. 
 
The bill, taken up from the Senate after it was passed on unanimous consent, will allow broadcasters to choose to make the transition to all-digital broadcasts before the new June 12 transition date
 
The bill also permits public safety to begin using vacated spectrum to meet communications needs ahead of the transition date.

Access Television (PEG)

By Franchise Agreement  cable providers make available to the City and County of Denver channels for access television programming; 

  • Denver 8 TV is the Government access cable station and is operated by this office. Channel 58 is a City Services and Information Channel also managed here 
  • Channel 22 is the Educational Access cable television station that is operated through Denver Public Schools; and Channel 54  is operated by Higher Education from Auraria Campus
  • Channels 56, 57, and 219 comprise the Public Access television lineup. These channels operate under the name Denver Open Media and are managed by contract with the non-profit organization, Deproduction 

Public Access Stations
Deproduction is a nonprofit organization established to facilitate, promote, coordinate and manage Public Access programming in Denver. The organization has a contractual agreement with the City of Denver to provide this service, operate the Public Access facilities as Denver Open Media and assist residents in producing access television programs.

Through community outreach they have established a program to inform and educate members of the community of the potential communication benefits and services which Public Access television can provide. Residents of Denver may use the facilities operated by Denver Open Media to produce or participate in the production of Public Access television programs. Denver Open Media assists those who wish to produce programs for these channels by offering training classes and production assistance.

Educational Access Station
In keeping with terms of its franchise, Comcast Cable also makes available to the City and County of Denver an educational television channel for use by Denver Public Schools. This channel is operated by the School District and is currently used for Distance Learning activities. Denver Public Schools may be reached at 720-423-6691.
The Denver Public Schools Distance Learning Network stays at the forefront of Distance Learning (the delivery of education from a remote site and the delivery of public information and services). With this combination of methodology and technology, the network, using Channel 22, seeks to expand and enrich the human potential with emphasis on students, staff, and community in such a way as to empower lifelong learning.
