The Denver Sheriff Department is responsible for the care, custody and transport of prisoners for the City and County of Denver. The department is comprised of three divisions:
The County Jail Division is responsible for the long term care and custody of sentenced prisoners, sentenced and pre-sentenced female prisoners and prisoners sentenced to alternative sentencing programs.
The Downtown Division is comprised of the Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center
which is the prisoner intake center where prisoners are processed into the system and housed until such a time that they are able to make bond, or have been given an advisement by the court. The Civil Process Unit
and the Court Services Unit also reside under the Downtown Division.
The Support Services Division is responsible for the department's overall administration and special projects. Units within the Division include the Technology Management Unit, the Vehicle Impound Facility
, the Training Academy, the Denver Health Medical Center Correctional Care Medical Facility and the Scheduling Unit.
