A Message From The Director of Corrections William Lovingier Minimize
I believe that as a law enforcement agency we need to demonstrate this profession’s highest standards. Honesty, fairness, respect, and good ethical conduct in our dealings with the public, each other, and persons committed to our custody is paramount for me. There is nothing more important to us than our reputation.  I am committed to, and have set a goal to build our professional stature not only regionally, but nationally, through programs and initiatives that will involve aspects of the entire criminal justice system and our community.

William R. Lovingier
Director of Corrections and Undersheriff

 Denver Sheriff Department Minimize

The Denver County Jail is the largest single county jail in the Rocky Mountain region. The County Jail Division is responsible for the long term care and custody of prisoners and is the holding facility for convicted felons awaiting transfer to the Colorado Department of Corrections, sentenced misdemeanant prisoners and prisoners awaiting trial.  In June 2010 the Denver County Jail will begin undergoing significant structural changes.  To view the Denver County Jail Master Plan please click here.

The Downtown Division Pre-Arraignment Detention Facility (PADF) is the prisoner intake center.  Prisoners are processed into the system, booked, finger printed, and temporarily housed until such a time that they are able to make bond, or have been given an advisement by the court.

The duties of the Civil Division are widely varied. They include, but are not limited to service of civil process, sale of real and personal property under court order and execution of court ordered evictions.

This Division is responsible for the Department's overall administration and special projects.  The Division is also responsible for the implementation of all new projects directly affecting the Denver Sheriff Department.

The Denver Sheriff Impound Facility is comprised of approximately 20 acres of fenced storage space with an office building divided into two vehicle storage lots and sales lots.  The facility is located at 5160 York Street in Denver.  We also manage the Sheriff Department's Property Bureau, handling all inmate property generated at the Pre-Arraignment Dentention Faciity and the Denver County Jail.  This facility is located at 5150 York Street in Denver.
