Denver Child Support Application Fees Waived in August thanks to Colorado Bar Association

In support of parents putting their child first and in observation of National Child Support month, Denver County residents that apply for child support throughout August will have the $20 application fee paid by the Colorado Bar Association (CBA).

“The Colorado Bar Association is proud to partner with the City of Denver in recognizing August as Child Support Month,” said Cynthia Ciancio, the Chair of the CBA’s Family Law Section and a Shareholder with Donelson Ciancio & Grant, P.C. “We are pleased that the Colorado Bar Association is able to cover the fees for those filing for child support in August and hope that it will help families across the city.”

“The Colorado Bar Association is a great example of an organization supporting families in our community,” says Denver Child Support Director Liz Calvert. “This partnership is a great way to get the word out to our community about the benefits of the child support program, while encouraging parents to be there for their children.”

A few of the benefits of child support include: a fair and balanced formula that determines the amount each parent pays to raise a child each month; connecting people to paternity tests to confirm the identity of a child's father; caseworkers that can request a change to a child support order if a parent's income changes; and the ability to track payments.

“Many parents are hesitant to apply for child support services, but once they learn about our services and how they benefit children it eases their minds. We want what any parent wants, what's best for the child," Calvert said.  "If anyone has questions about the way child support works, I encourage them to call our customer care unit where they can ask questions and remain anonymous."

Both moms and dads can apply for child support from the other parent by completing an application and submitting it to the child support office. Application fees will be waived Aug. 1 - 31 at the time the application is submitted to the Denver Child Support office located at Denver Human Services, 1200 Federal Blvd., Denver, CO, 80204. Applications can be picked up from the office, by calling the Child Support care center at 720-944-2960 and requesting an application by mail, or by downloading it online at

Over 26,000 families utilized Denver Child Support in 2011.
