|Civilian Employee of the Month for October 2013 - Bonnie Mountain|
Bonnie Mountain is the Quality Assurance Manager for the Crime Laboratory, and was hired from IBM after 15 years of service there. She came to the Denver Police Department in 2004 as a volunteer, and has transitioned into her position in the Lab very well. Ms. Mountain is responsible for the Lab’s ISO Quality Management System and performs exceptionally in this role. The Lab recently had their bi-annual external audit of the laboratory operation, and only a few very minor findings resulted that were fixed within an hour. This performance is hard to match, as often laboratories have well over thirty findings that require major work and processes to remedy.
Ms. Mountain is also involved with the Property Management Bureau and their application for ISO 17020, and has supported them in the drafting of their standard operating procedures and creation of a quality system, which will assist them in controlling inventory and evidence. Ms. Mountain is always pleasant and helpful. As such, she readily avails herself to assist scientists and investigators in the Lab, as well as personnel outside of the Laboratory.
Since moving to the new facility, Ms. Mountain has been responsible for well over one hundred warrantee items, which have required tracking and coordination with City Maintenance Services and the builder, J.E. Dunn. She also takes her turn on the front desk to insure that the front entrance of the Laboratory facility is covered. Ms. Mountain possesses exemplary skills in computer programming, as well as science in general, and she is using her talents on a major research project involving DNA and familial searching that has been ongoing since 2008. Recently, Ms. Mountain prepared a grant proposal for $435,000, which was granted in the competitive applied research track. She is a top performer who is adaptable to change, and a talented and gifted person. Therefore, the Denver Police Department is proud to recognize Bonnie Mountain as Employee of the Month.
