June 2013 Update

The Colfax Corridor Connections team wants to take a moment to update you on progress being made on the project. Denver, Aurora and RTD are working collaboratively to achieve the project goal of improving transit and overall mobility within the East Colfax Avenue travel corridor now and over the next 25 years. The corridor is roughly bounded by I-25 and I-225 to the west and east, respectively, and by 12th Avenue and 20th Avenue on the south and north.

You'll remember that at our last screening (Screen 2), it was determined our project is narrowing its recommendations to focus on potential transit investments for East Colfax Avenue, as well as a number of smaller but important transit, bicycle and pedestrian connectivity improvements throughout the corridor. For the potential transit investments on East Colfax Avenue, we identified three transit alternatives for further evaluation in our Screen 3 analysis, which include: enhanced bus (improvements to the existing bus service), bus rapid transit and modern streetcar.

Since that time, the project team has been hard at work developing more detailed information about the three transit alternatives to help with the Screen 3 analysis and subsequent public engagement activities. The information the project team is in the process of developing includes:

  • Modeling results on transit ridership, transit connections and other key data on how each transit alternative is expected to operate
  • Developing conceptual cost estimates for construction and operation of each alternative
  • Analyzing how each alternative could impact overall traffic and mobility in the corridor
  • Analyzing the economic development potential of each transit alternative
  • Conducting a high-level environmental analysis of each transit alternative
  • Evaluating connectivity improvements for transit, pedestrian and bicycle facilities
All of these efforts are ongoing. By late summer or early fall, we anticipate each of these efforts will be complete enough to bring you additional information that will aid in the evaluation of the preferred transit alternative for East Colfax Avenue. The development of these findings and your input will be used to help Denver, Aurora and RTD determine the best solution for the corridor.

Your input and engagement has helped us to reach this point in the study. We thank you for your patience and continued involvement as we work through these important areas of analysis and we look forward to seeing you this fall.
