In a year when Denver takes center stage as the site of the Democratic National Convention, he shares colorful stories of presidential campaigns as the honoree of the Press Club’s annual Damon Runyon Awards Banquet.

The City of Denver is leading the way in recycling services for citizens. And its action agenda for sustainable development, known as Greenprint Denver, demonstrates that local government can be an effective force for innovation and leadership to improve the environment. This month, Denver 8 TV launches this new 4-part series designed to educate and inform you about the many programs, processes and people involved in mounting Denver’s biggest convention ever. Each month will feature a new program, leading up to the main event. The focus in May:
The 2008 Democratic National Convention promises to be the “greenest” political convention in modern American history. Go behind the scenes to find out how City leaders and convention planners are using environmentally sustainable methods in every possible way -- from minimizing waste at resource recovery stations to measuring and offsetting the convention’s carbon footprintPremieres Thursday, May 8 at 7:30 pm.
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 am; Sunday at 1 pm; Monday at 5 pm; Tuesday at 5:30 pm; Thursday at 10 am and 7:30 pm; Saturday at 8 pm.
The Convention and North Denver
Security and public safety are major concerns of nearby neighborhoods. What can area residents expect? Will local services be accessible? Recently, District 1 Councilman Rick Garcia held a community forum at North High School, to provide residents an opportunity to hear how planning for this summer’s Democratic National Convention is progressing. The forum featured several members of the convention Host Committee, who provided answers and information about the challenges and opportunities the event may provide, as well as the impacts the convention may have on those neighborhoods.

Parks and Recreation Public Meeting
Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation is proposing to amend its alcohol policy related to the consumption, serving, and selling of alcoholic beverages in Denver parks and facilities. Denver citizens provide their input into drafting the final policy amendment.
