Luxury Hotel to Be Built at Southeast Corner of Airport Terminal

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper announced the selection of Westin Hotels & Resorts to build a 500-room luxury hotel at Denver International Airport (DIA).  Westin is owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.

“A Westin hotel at DIA will strengthen its standing as a world-class airport and enhance our capacity to accommodate both business and leisure travelers,” Hickenlooper said. “This hotel fulfills a vision that began with the construction of DIA. We are excited about the business the new Westin hotel will generate for the airport and the City.”

CLEAR SNOWY SIDEWALKS TO HELPSnow Removal Vital to Safety and Mobility
City of Denver Reminds Residents and Businesses

Since senior citizens, people with disabilities, strollers and mail carriers - just to name a few – struggle to negotiate hazardous walkways after snowstorms, the City of Denver wants to remind local residents and businesses that we all need to do our part to make our community safe and accessible for all.

City ordinance requires that Denver businesses remove snow from their sidewalks within four (4) hours after a snowstorm ends and Denver residents remove snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowstorm ends

DENVER ELECTS PAPER BALLOTS FOR '08
Denver Clerk and Recorder Announces 2008 Voting Model
Voting will take place at combined precinct polling places

Denver Clerk and Recorder Stephanie O’Malley announced today that Denver’s voters will vote on paper ballots in 2008 and, unless the state legislature takes an action to prohibit it, voting will take place at combined precinct polling places.  Any voter can vote by mail just by requesting a mail ballot.

The city’s direct recording electronic (DRE) touch-screen voting machines, whose current decertification for use is under appeal with the Secretary of State, would see very limited usage only as vote-marking devices for the disabled community. Plans also call for using the city’s existing conditionally-certified ballot scanners to count the paper ballots at a central location, unless appropriations are made for precinct scanners.

The plan caps an intensive process through the latter part of 2007 by the Denver 2008 Elections Model Advisory Committee.
