Help Make Season Bright
Spreading holiday cheer is what the Denver Human Services (DHS) Giving Program hopes to bring to over 5,000 developmentally delayed adults, disadvantaged seniors, teenagers, youngsters and families this season.

“With the economy the way it is, we are seeing a decrease in donations and a rise in people who need help,” says Chrisanne Wilhelmi, Volunteer Program Manager at Denver Human Services.

DENVER OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS LAUNCHES
CREATIVE SPACE AGENT WEB SITE PROJECT

 The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) is delighted to launch the new Creative Space Agent Web site project. Creative Space Agent will be a free Web portal designed to advertise space to Denver’s space-starved creative community. When fully operational, the site will allow creative businesses, artists and arts organizations to search for and promote available performance, rehearsal, studio, business and housing space that meet their unique needs.

During Phase One, DOCA is creating a directory of creative space for the launch of the full site in November, 2008. DOCA invites postings of space offered for rent or lease for creative use on an ongoing basis. Individuals, organizations and businesses who are real estate professionals, developers, property owners/managers and venue and facility managers can list their property at www.regonline.com/spaceagent, a temporary data collection site. The deadline to submit a directory listing is Friday, August 18.

Phase One will capture information in the following two categories:
Creative Space Directory: A static directory, populated with information on spaces such as performance and rehearsal venues, exhibition areas, storage space, studios and live/work units. Spaces from theaters to churches and commercial warehouses to retail and housing space designed and targeted toward creative enterprises should be listed.

Spaces with Creative Amenities Rental: A directory of spaces that offer rentals with special amenities for artists such as screen printing, woodworking or recording equipment.

In the next Phase, listings of creative space vacancies and sale properties will be solicited. When completed, a full, searchable site will be launched and made available to the creative sector and public.

Utilizing Web 2.0 technologies, the completed Creative Space Agent Web site will present a “one-stop” Web portal that:
  • enables individuals, businesses and organizations to find space in the City and County of Denver to create, perform, rehearse, exhibit and store creative content;
  • enables individuals, businesses and organizations to post space offered for creative use in the City and County of Denver;
  • promotes rental spaces where special creative amenities are provided (e.g., woodshop, dark room, recording studio, etc.);
  • provides a virtual location where artists can network for shared needs and combine resources; and
  • features a glossary of real estate terms.

The Creative Space Agent Web site is a recommendation of the Mayor’s Task Force on Creative Spaces, as identified in the final report, Space Matters. DOCA consulted with developers of similar Web sites in Massachusetts and Chicago on the architecture and functionality of Denver’s Creative Space Agent.

Special thanks to Colorado Real Estate Journal and TAXI for their support of this project.

The Creative Space Agent is a program of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs’ Create Denver initiative. Create Denver exists to support, promote and grow Denver’s creative sector. It includes policy recommendations, programmatic initiatives, technical assistance and advocacy.

The mission of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs is to advance the arts and culture in the City and County of Denver.
