DIA SETS BUSIEST-MONTH RECORD WITH 5,000,505 PASSENGERS IN JULY
First time ever DIA exceeds 5 million travelers in a month
Denver International Airport recorded 5,000,505 passengers in July, the first time that monthly traffic at the Denver airport has topped the 5 million mark. The July total was 3.7 percent higher than the 4,821,082 passengers recorded during the same month last year.
July marked the 19th straight month in which passenger traffic set a monthly record at the Denver airport. The previous record for DIA’s busiest month was set in June, when 4,829,829 travelers passed through the airport.
The July figure pushed DIA’s year-to-date passenger total to 30,551,725. That was 4.2 percent higher than the 29,315,273 travelers recorded at the airport during the same period of 2007.
“We are encouraged that our passenger numbers continue to be above last year, but the monthly percentage of increase is beginning to drop a little,” Aviation Manager Kim Day said Monday. “That’s in line with our expectation that passenger numbers will level out during the rest of the year as airlines reduce capacity to help offset high fuel costs.”
Flight operations rose 2.8 percent in July to 56,565. That brought the year-to-date total to 371,642, an increase of 3.3 percent over the first seven months of last year.
