Denver’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership to Receive Outstanding Emerging Innovation Program Award

Denver, Colo – The Denver Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership (DTPPP) has been selected by the Healthy Teen Network to receive its Outstanding Emerging Innovation Program Award. The award honors and celebrates unique and innovative work in the field of adolescent pregnancy, parenting and prevention.

The award will be given on Oct. 30 at the Healthy Teen Network Annual Conference in Albuquerque, N.M.

"Teen pregnancy is a very serious issue in our community and across the country. It is wonderful to have this innovative partnership that unites the public sector, school communities, and community-based organizations to achieve a common goal. We are pleased that DTPPP is being recognized as a model program both in our community and nationally" said Councilman Paul Lopez of Denver District 3.

The Denver Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership is a two-year pilot initiative that provides pregnancy prevention education to youth and families at Kepner Middle School, Lincoln High School and West High School.

The goal of the Partnership is to reduce teen pregnancies by partnering with the community to provide comprehensive, science-based pregnancy prevention education that starts with abstinence.

Nominations for the award were received from programs across the country. The DTPPP was selected because of its accomplishment in this field since its launch in 2007; including serving over 1000 participants last year.

The Denver partnership includes: Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity & Reproductive Rights, the Colorado Statewide Parent Coalition, Denver Area Youth Services, Denver Health School Based Health Centers, Denver Office of Strategic Partnerships, Denver Public Schools, Girls Incorporated of Metro Denver, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, and The Colorado Health Foundation.

The Denver Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership is funded by Denver Human Services through the Denver Office of Strategic Partnerships, and by a matching grant from The Colorado Health Foundation.
