PASSENGER TRAFFIC AT DIA CONTINUES

RECORD-SETTING PACE IN AUGUST

4,768,799 passengers make it the busiest August ever in Denver

Passenger traffic at Denver International Airport set another monthly record in August, when 4,768,799 travelers used the facility. Even though it was the busiest August ever in Denver, the monthly increase was the smallest in several months, bearing out airport officials’ expectations that traffic is leveling off because of capacity cuts by the airlines.

The August total was 1.6 percent higher than the 4,691,621 passengers recorded during the same month of last year. It was the 20th straight month in which passenger traffic set a monthly record at DIA. But the 1.6 percent increase was the smallest monthly hike since April, when traffic rose only 1.0 percent compared with the same month a year ago.

The August figure swelled DIA’s year-to-date passenger total to 35,320,524. That was 3.9 percent higher than the 34,006,894 travelers recorded during the first eight months of 2007. Airport officials have been predicting for some time that the passenger traffic growth DIA experienced last year and earlier this year will begin to decline and stabilize as the airlines reduce capacity in order to deal with high fuel costs.

Flight operations in August increased 0.6 percent to 55,651. That brought DIA’s year-to-date total to 427,293 operations, up 3.0 percent compared with the same period of 2007.

The complete traffic report will be available on DIA’s Web site by following this link:
