DAVID FINE NAMED AS CITY ATTORNEY Thursday, December 04, 2008 | 16 ° Light Snow

Mayor John Hickenlooper announces appointment

October 3, 2007 - “David Fine has enjoyed an impressive career as a local attorney specializing in civil litigation, employment litigation, constitutional law and election law,” Hickenlooper said. “He has represented and advised businesses, individuals, nonprofits and government entities on a broad range of issues relevant to services the City of Denver provides and the people we serve.  We look forward to having someone of his experience and expertise join our talented team in the City Attorney’s Office.”

Fine will assume his new post Oct. 29.  He is currently a partner with Kelly Garnsey Hubbell + Lass LLC, a Denver law firm that focuses on public policy, civil advocacy, family law and alternative dispute resolution.

“I am honored and excited to have been selected by Mayor Hickenlooper to serve the people of Denver as City Attorney,” Fine said. “He is a dynamic and innovative leader with a great vision for the City.  I share his commitment to excellence in government, and I look forward to working with him and with the first-rate team of attorneys and staff in the City Attorney’s Office. Together, we will continue to ensure the highest possible quality of legal counsel and representation for our partners in the City.”

Fine, who has been recognized twice by Colorado Super Lawyers for his work in employment litigation, constitutional law and business litigation, joined Kelly Garnsey Hubbell + Lass (KGHL) in 1994. There he focuses on civil litigation, including cases involving constitutional issues; employment litigation and counseling; and litigation and advice concerning elections, campaign finance initiatives and redistricting.

Prior to joining KGHL, Fine was staff attorney for three years at the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Denver.  He also worked as an associate at Hill & Robbins, P.C. from 1988-1991. He began his career in 1987 as a law clerk for Colorado Supreme Court Justice George E. Lohr.

Fine also has been active in many legal and civic organizations throughout his career. He served as director of Habitat for Humanity Colorado from 1998 to 2004, and he is currently a mentor at Denver’s East High School through the A+ Angels mentoring program.  He is a member of the Denver Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association and American Bar Association and he serves on the executive committee of the Colorado Lawyers Committee, a civil rights organization of the Colorado legal community.

A fourth-generation Coloradan and a Denver native, Fine graduated from George Washington High School in Denver and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated with distinction and was elected to membership in the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.  He earned his law degree from Northwestern University, graduating cum laude.
