Mayor Praises Police, Public Works on Protecting Public During Convention
Caches of Potentially Harmful & Disruptive Materials Seized throughout the Week. “Our police and Public Works crews engineered an extraordinary behind-the-scenes collaboration preceding and during the Democratic National Convention which thwarted plans of those intent on disrupting our city,” Mayor Hickenlooper said.
 
 
 

New Manager for Parks and Recreation Department Announced
 
Mayor Hickenlooper has announced the appointment of Kevin Patterson as the new Manager of the Parks & Recreation Department.  Kevin brings a unique combination of experience as a teacher, elected official and executive manager to his new post.

Recycle Your Tree After the Holidays
Program Runs December 31 - January 11 

Denver Recycles' annual Treecycle program will be recycling thousands of Christmas trees into mulch again this holiday season. Treecycle helps Denver avoid using landfill space and paying disposal fees  Place cleaned trees out for pick-up at start of either week.

Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
 
The Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) helps qualifying low-income families pay their heating bills each winter.  Last year, 114,576 Coloradans received assistance from LEAP, including disabled and elderly individuals.  
It's a "Play Fair" for the Playground Master Plan
Denver Parks and Recreation Wants Your Input... For FUN!
 
All ages are welcome at this fun, interactive event to roll out concepts for a citywide framework of play in Denver.  Help shape the vision for Denver’s future playground system,  Wednesday, January 30, 5:30 p.m.– 7:30 p.m. at the Children’s Museum of Denver.  This event is co-hosted by Denver Parks & Recreation and the Children’s Museum of Denver.
Computer Classes Offered at Denver Public Library
Programs Designed for New Users
 
The Denver Public Library is helping to bridge the digital divide by offering classes to help introduce customers to the world of computers.  Several Denver Public Library branch locations offer Basic Computer Skills courses to adults ages 18 and up.  Courses are free.
