Thursday, Nov. 26 - City and County of Denver offices will be closed for the day in observance of Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, November 27, most City and County offices will also be closed as Employees are taking a furlough day to help the City create budget savings during these challenging economic times. Top Headlines Thursday, November 26, 2009 | 66.0° Partly Cloudy DHS Sparks Winter Energy Assistance Program DENVER – Denver Human Services will be facilitating emergency energy assistance to low-income Denver residents and processing applications from others in need beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1. The agency will help city residents as part of the 2006-2007 Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP). The program helps qualifying low-income residents pay their heating bills each winter.  Police Warn "Puffers" Likely to Disappear Hundreds of Vehicles Stolen While Left Running Unattended As seasonal temperatures are dropping, drivers are increasingly tempted to "warm" their vehicles letting them idle in place for several minutes or more while they ready themselves inside their homes. These vehicles left unattended while running are called "puffers". Last year hundreds of people had their vehicles’ stolen while they were left running unattended.
