Fresh ideas, highly marketable products and a spark for business growth are the winning qualities of the 2013 “Innovation Award” companies announced today by the Denver Office of Economic Development as part of its annual JumpStart Biz Plan competition. The ten firms are competing for the city’s Biz Plan Award, which will be announced this Thursday after a live judging event.
The 2013 Innovation Award winners were selected from a field of more than 130 applicants by a judging panel of professionals from program sponsors including Deloitte, Polsinelli, US Bank, TiE Rockies and last year’s winner, AppIt Ventures.

Each of the Innovation Award winners will receive memberships to TiE Rockies and the Rockies Venture Club.
“What is exciting about the Jumpstart Biz Plan competitors is the amazing range of industries, from outdoor sports to online platforms to gourmet candy,” said Paul Washington, OED executive director. “What is impressive about this year’s Innovation Awards is the energy and sheer grit, the determination to build a business from just an idea, that each winner has shown us.”
Three of the Innovation Award winners, CirrusMD, Guerrilla Gravity and Waste Farmers, have been selected as the top three finalists of the JumpStart Biz Plan Awards. A judging event will be held this Thursday, in which each company will present overviews of their business plans and answer questions from a judging panel. The grand prize winner will be selected at the event.
