Safe Summer Safe Holly, Park Hill Festival
Holly Square
Saturday, June 7, 2014
10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

· Both Safe Summer Kickoffs are free, family-friendly events where attendees can learn about community and government support services while they enjoy food, live entertainment, prize drawings and a variety of activities. The events are also an opportunity to connect youth with alternative activities during the summer to keep them busy and safe.

Over 50 private and public community organizations will provide information on youth services, financial security options, community policing, health and wellness options, voting services, and upcoming neighborhood social activities. Bilingual staff will be available during both events, and announcements will be made in English and Spanish at the “Grill & Chill” event on Southwest Denver.

“These community events provide our citizens with the information they need to feel safe and supported in their neighborhoods,” said Executive Director of Public Safety, Stephanie Y. O’Malley. “Whether that’s where to go for affordable health care or where to go when you need police assistance; it’s all about community connectivity and getting to know the people who care about this City.”

Festivities at the Kepner Middle School event will include face painting, poetry reading, games and activities, music, and a performance by the Lincoln High School ROTC. Members of the Denver Police, Sheriff and Fire Departments will also attend the Kickoff and Police will operate a “Safety Village” where attendees can ride tricycles and bicycles and learn about bicycle safety. Additionally, members of the Colorado Rapids will hold a pickup game where youth will be encouraged to join in.

The Safe Summer Safe Holly, Park Hill Festival will include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, chess tournament, dance competition, car show, arts and children activities, and live music, including performances by Jakarta, Gregory Goodloe, the Ricky Earl Band, and Zulu Gremlin.

The purpose of the 2014 Safe Summer Kickoff Events is to build community cohesion while promoting a healthy and safe summer for Denver’s residents. Kepner Middle School is located at 911 S. Hazel Court and the Holly Square is located at 3300 Holly Street.
