2007 Denver Radium Streets Projects

 The proposed remedial activities to be performed as part of the Radium Streets Projects, Operable Unit VII, for 2007 include excavation, loading, transportation and off-site disposal of low-level radioactive materials that co-exist in the asphalt and/or subsurface soils.  In addition, the City and County of Denver (CCoD) will reconstruct the streets to Public Works standards.  These activities are anticipated to be initiated in April of 2007 and continue for approximately eight months through December of 2007.  The proposed remedial activities will be performed along:

  • Jason Street between Louisiana Avenue and South Platte Drive;
  • 23rd Avenue (Park Avenue) between California Street to Arapahoe Street
  • 9th Avenue between Ogden Street and Franklin Street and Corona Street between 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue;
  • York Street between 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue, and;
  • York Street between 11th Avenue and 13th Avenue.

The City and County of Denver (CCoD) has selected two contractors to perform 2007 Radium Streets Projects work on Jason Street, 9th Avenue, Corona Street, York Street and 23rd Avenue (Park Avenue).  A third firm will perform oversight of the remediation contractors as well as support the CCoD with managing the transportation and off-site disposal of the low-level radioactive materials.  The CCoD will transport and dispose of the low-level radioactive materials to a facility in Adams County, Colorado or at the Idaho facility.
