2004 Denver Radium Streets Projects

The focus of Radium Streets Projects for 2004 was the removal of radium-impacted asphalt from and reconstruction of Humboldt Street from 7th to 9th Avenue, Lafayette Street from 1st Avenue to 10th Avenue, and storm sewer inlet upgrade from 3rd Avenue to 7th Avenue on Lafayette Street.

Project Activities

The Lafayette Street and Humboldt Street Project was a response to EPA’s designation of these Denver streets as part of the Superfund Site. All radium-impacted asphalt was removed and the streets rebuilt to Public Works standards. The focus of the radium removal for 2004 was Humboldt Street from 7th to 9th Avenue, and Lafayette Street from 1st Avenue to 10th Avenue. In addition, the Lafayette Street outfall was constructed in conjunction with the radium street project.

The Lafayette Street outfall began at Cherry Creek and the construction ran North up Little Downing to 3rd Avenue, and East on 3rd Avenue to Lafayette Street, and North on Lafayette to 7th Avenue (see map above).
