Congratulations to The 5 By 5 Project!  On February 27, 2008, the 5 By 5 Project was recognized with a 5281 Award by the Mayor in a city-wide ceremony for helping the City reach one of its five goals--Making Denver a better place to live.  The 5281 Awards is a program to celebrate and honor the work of City employees.  The 5 By 5 Project was selected from over 100 nominations for its leadership in strengthening families and improving school readiness by providing access to the City's cultural venues to low-income families with young children.  Over 40,000 visits have been made to the City's cultural organizations from 5 By 5 participants in the last two years.  As a result, parents, children, and pre-school teachers, reported increased vocubaluary and more vibrant participation in the classroom.  The estimated value of The 5 By 5 Project is $4 million, while the actual program cost is less than 1% of that amount.
