 Premium Discount Program Minimize

Get Healthy, Enjoy Life, and Now Save Money!

 

Starting on January 1, 2010, employees will be eligible for a premium discount on their medical insurance in 2011 by completing the actions of the City's DenverWellness program.

In an ongoing effort to promote employee health and well-being, and reduce health care costs for employees and the City, only two actions are required:

  1. Complete the online health assessment through your city sponsored health care provider (Denver Health, Kaiser Permanente or UnitedHealthCare).
  2. Complete one of the following wellness activities by August 31, 2010 to be eligible for the premium discount incentive:
  • Self-paced eight week physical activity challenge, or
  • DenverWellness worksite program, or
  • Online health program through your City sponsored health care provider.
Employees will have January through August 31, 2010 to complete the online health assessment and one of the three wellness activities. Please note this discount is for Career Service status employees only.
Participation, not results will earn employees the discount incentive. All activities are voluntary and confidential.

 Online Health Assessment Minimize
We invite you to take the free online health assessment, created in collaboration with our health care partners UnitedHealthcare, Denver Health and Kaiser Permanente. It's free to you, and only takes about 20 minutes to complete.
 
The questions are designed to provide you with a detailed, personalized health report which your health care provider will send back to you, showing the relationship between behavior and healthy habits, today and your healthy future. All information is confidential between you and your provider.
 
To get started with your online health assessment, we recommend knowing your 4 key health numbers.  Your 4 key health numbers, cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI), are used to complete your online health assessment.
 
The online health assessment is one of the required actions of the DenverWellness program and must be completed to be eligible for the premium discount incentive.

 Self-Paced Physical Activity Challenge Minimize
Challenge Description
The Self-Paced Physical Activity Challenge is an 8-week challenge that encourages employees to pursue a healthier lifestyle by being more physically active. Employees log their weekly physical activity and aim to complete at least 90 minutes of aerobic activity each week. The challenge can be completed anytime between January 1, 2010 and August 31, 2010.
 
Challenge Requirements
To be eligible for premium discounts, participants must complete a minimum of:
  • 8 consecutive weeks of aerobic activity
  • 3 sessions per week
  • each session must be at least 30 minutes of non-stop aerobic activity
  • log their weekly activity on the designated challenge log sheet for the entire 8 weeks
Aerobic, or cardiovascular, activities must be continuous and performed at a moderate-intensity level. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, moderate-intensity aerobic activity means you are working hard enough to raise your heart rate and break a sweat.

Upon completion of the 8-week challenge, participants will turn in their log sheet to the DenverWellness Staff via email, inter-office mail or fax to 720-913-5695.

 
 DenverWellness Worksite Programs - 2010 Minimize
Along with completion of the online health assessment, employees may choose to complete one approved worksite wellness program to be eligible for premium discounts in 2011. 

 StairWell Challenge and Traveling the Trails:
To register contact your Wellness Champion!
  • The StairWell Challenge runs from February 1 – March 12, 2010. Registration is from January 13 - 29. 
  • Employees work in teams of 2 people. The team captain will record each member’s flight weekly to turn into their Wellness Champion every Monday.
  • Employees must complete the entire 6 week challenge. 
  • The minimum qualifications, each team member must accumulate enough flights to reach the top of one of the Peaks.
  • Agencies that do not have stairs or employees that are unable to walk stairs can complete the alternate 6 week challenge, Traveling the Trails.

 Weight Watcher's
  • Ongoing meetings are held at the Webb Municipal Building and may be joined at anytime. Cost of remaining meetings is pro-rated.
  • Employee must complete a minimum of 8 consecutive meetings.

 “You Can Quit” Smoking Cessation Program

  • "You Can Quit” smoking cessation program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, will be held in various City locations in 2010. 
  • Classes in the Webb Municipal Building will be held in Spring 2010 (exact dates coming soon).
  • The program consists of three classes, held once a week. Classes are 1 ½ to 2 hours in length. 
  • All three classes must be attended and completed. 
  • The “You Can Quit” smoking cessation program is free of charge. 
  • “You Can Quit” smoking cessation programs will be held quarterly at various city locations.

 Fabulous Food Festival

  • The Fabulous Food Festival will be held in June and July 2010 (exact dates coming soon).
  • Employees must log their intake of fruits, vegetables and grains for entire 6 week challenge.

Online Health Assessment: A Closer Look

One of the required actions of the City’s DenverWellness - Premium Discount Program is completion of an online health assessment through your City-sponsored health care provider. A health assessment provides employees with concrete information about their current health risks and overall health status. Based on the results of your health assessment, recommendations will be given in order to improve your health and quality of life.


Premium Discount Program - FAQ's

Employees are now eligible for a discount on their medical insurance in 2011 by completing two actions of the City’s DenverWellness – Premium Discount Program. Along with completion of an online health assessment, employees must complete one other wellness activity:

  • Online health program through their health care provider

Along with completion of the online health assessment, employees may choose to complete one online health program through thier city sponsored health care provider to be eligible for premium discounts in 2011.
 
Based upon the recommendations of your health assessment, employees can participate in a variety of online health programs, such as weight management, smoking cessation and exercise and nutrition programs.  Online health programs must be at least six weeks long to qualify for the premium discount incentive.
