The City of Denver is ISO 14001 Certified
Confirming Our Commitment to Outstanding
Environmental Performance
To align with the Mayor's sustainability goals, the Department of Environmental Health is developing and implementing a city-wide EMS which will provide the basic foundation for managing the activities performed in the city that are associated with environmental quality.
What is an EMS?An EMS is a proactive management tool that helps Denver incorporate environmental considerations into its day to day operations. Denver is one of the first cities in the nation to implement a city-wide environmental management system. By 2011, most all of Denver's city agencies will have an EMS in place.
From pollution prevention and resource conservation to increased operational efficiency, Denver's EMS has many environmental and business rewards. An EMS will save Denver residents tax dollars, promote environmental stewardship and improve the city's work environment.
How does an EMS work? The concept of an EMS may sound complex but in reality it is a simple process. Plan, do, check, act. Denver’s EMS operates under a continuous cycle of planning, implementation, reviewing and improvement.
