Adult Protection

Our Adult Protection Program provides services to adults age 18 and older who are susceptible to mistreatment such as abuse, neglect, exploitation or self-neglect. We provide service to residents of the City and County of Denver without regard to income.

Our services are voluntary and include:

In-home assessment for abuse, neglect and exploitation

Assistance with obtaining benefits

Assistance with housing and/or placement to alternative housing

Crisis intervention

Money Management

Monthly visits by a caseworker, if risk continues

Our Court ordered Involuntary Services include:

Guardianship – under order of Probate Court

Any other protective services ordered by the Court

To make an adult protection referral, call 720-944-2994 with information on the individual’s name, address (or current location), phone, date of birth, and current concerns about the person’s situation. An intake worker will follow up to assess the person’s safety, willingness to accept services, and need for further services.

A competent adult has the right to refuse protective services. The Department does not take actions on an individual’s behalf without the person’s consent, unless the Probate Court has ordered it.
