Burial Assistance Information
The Denver Department of Human Services Burial Assistance Program provides financial assistance for Denver county decedents who do not leave sufficient funds for their funeral and burial expenses, and whose family is either financially unable to provide for such expenses or cannot be contacted within a reasonable time. The total cost of the funeral and burial cannot exceed $2500.00.
Applicants for burial assistance must qualify financially. The assets and resources of the deceased and all responsible parties will be considered when determining eligibility.
The Burial Assistance Unit is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants are seen by appointment only. To make an appointment, call Cherie Madden at 720-944-2175. Please have the following information ready when you call:
Most mortuaries participate in our program; only a few cemeteries do. In most cases, an appointment will be scheduled for the same day. Eligibility will usually be determined within 24 hours. If you are a health care provider and you need the name of the next mortuary on the list, please call the Rotation Hotline at 720-944-3000.
