 Grandparent & Kinship Program Minimize
Grandparent & Kinship Program

The Denver Human Services Grandparent and Kinship Program may support you in raising your grandchildren or other relatives by helping you meet their physical, financial, medical, emotional and/or educational needs.

Depending on your family’s needs, the program may provide:
  • Financial assistance
  • Medicaid
  • Transportation assistance

Financial assistance is provided through the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program. TANF is monthly cash assistance that you may request for your grandchildren or other relatives. When you apply for TANF, you are also applying for Medicaid.

To be eligible, your family must meet the following criteria:
  • You must be a resident of Denver County.
  • The children must be financially eligible; your income and resources will not be counted.
  • You must be a caretaker relative who has not legally adopted the children. If you adopt the children, you become the legal parent and your income and resources will be used to determine eligibility.
  • You must verify your relationship with the children.
  • The children must be immunized.
  • The children must be in school full time. If they are between the ages of 16 and 18, they may be either in school, or in an approved training program.
  • You must cooperate with Child Support in locating both the father and mother of the children.

You may apply between 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday or 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Thursday at the Denver Human Services Center located at 1200 Federal Boulevard. If you are disabled and cannot come in and apply, you may call 720-944-2856 to make an appointment for someone to come to your home.
